This past weekend we were in SF city, experimenting with my REBEL and strolling around aimlessly (not that I need a reason to be there anyway). It was time for dinner and our quick choices: Greens, Dosa on Fillmore - the Saturday night prix fixe menu was too much to handle given our hunger levels - so the next option was Rose Pistola in North Beach but as we were driving to it, we spotted a packed Italian restaurant buzzing with activity and I think you can't go wrong with a packed restaurant (unless of course they have a Groupon going!). So, Piazza Pellegrini it was for dinner!
We ordered the house salad (an arugula and fennel mix )along with a bowl of veggie medley soup. The soup said "vegetarian" and that was good enough for me to settle down and get comfortable :) The soup was simple, no jazz, just perfect for the 50s weather (yes, 50s in July!!). Next came pasta, I think we pretty much end up requesting our own recipe for a pasta in most Italian restaurants. Madz loves a simple pasta with aioli topped off with some cheese. So that's what we ordered, spaghetti with garlic, olive oil and some steamed broccoli and mushrooms. All were decent sized portions, good enough for two.
Overall, I would give this place a 3/5, nothing out of the world but no complaints either! Speaking of which, I have one complaint, we ended up right below a broken heater, which kept spitting bursts of fire every time the gas tried to light up and that was scary. When we asked to be re-seated, they were neither too keen to move us nor did they sound surprised/shocked at that heater which I think was looking like it would blow up any minute!!
