SF Street Food Festival 2011

San Francisco hosts a zillion street festivals and fairs in summer and this being my first year in the Bay Area, I get  mighty excited about almost all of them. This weekend was the San Francisco Street Food Festival organized by La Cocina, it featured stalls by local restaurants serving exactly 3 dishes - 1 beverage, 1 appetizer and 1 entree and the items range from $2 - $8. The admission to the festival itself is free, all you need is cash to pay for your food and of course a good appetite and a flair for global cuisine and oh! make sure you take along a foodie buddy too :) In case you have a lot of energy and appetite after the fest, go prepared for the after party, this one needs advanced booking though!

The fest offers a great variety of foods - Vietnamese, Malay, Indian, Korean, Ethiopian, Thai and Puerto Rican to name a few. All stalls serve at least one vegetarian item and all beverages are non-alcoholic. For your alcoholic cravings (beer included), they have a separate fenced section at one end of the street, don't think you can carry alcohol out of that section! Of course there is good music and plenty of entertainers too!

If this interests you, you will like the next one coming up very soon in Oakland (definitely on my to-do!). The eat real festival festival also offers cooking and farming lessons and DIY opportunities where you can show off your cooking skills :)
